Floyd Beard

FLOYD BEARD

2016/2017 International Music Association
Male Poet of the Year

The Delta County Fair Board is thrilled to announce the return of Floyd Beard, an award winning and widely known Cowboy Poet back home to Hotchkiss for a performance with his friend, and renowed Cowboy Poet, NYLE HENDERSON!

ABOUT FLOYD:

Floyd is a 1973 graduate of Hotchkiss High school and attended Mesa Jr College in Grand Junction where he received his Associates Degree Production Agriculture before transferring to Colorado State Universtiy in 1975; where he graduated with a bachelors in Vocational Agricultural education and later a Masters of Agriculture.

Floyd and his parents Fred and Grace Beard, and family lived on Hanson Mesa outside of Hotchkiss for many years. Floyd returned to Delta County after college and was involved in agriculture around Hotchkiss and Crawford for several years and then worked for Delta County Schools as a teacher and administrator before becoming Superintendent of schools in Springfield, Colorado.

Floyd now lives "twelve cattle guards from the pavement" near Kim, Colorado where he and his wife, Valerie, run Corriente cattle with their daughter and son-in-law. A good day involves getting up before the sun is "pinking up the east", riding, working cattle, and settling down on the porch to watch the sunset. Floyd is an award winning poet and has been writing and rhyming for over 30 years. Floyd is the 2016 and 2017 International Music Association's Male Poet of the Year.

Most of his original poetry is written about his observations while working on the ranch. For more information go to: www.floydbeardcowboy.com or email him at febeard@yahoo.com.

NYLE HENDERSON

Former Hotchkiss Resident of 20 years & Award Winning Cowboy Poet

Nyle Henderson

"Where Seldom is heard a discouraging word and this cowboy cites verses all day!"

Nyle Henderson, a former Hotchkiss resident of 20 years, is well known for for his cowboy poetry that is cut and honed from real life experiences embracing the subject matter he knows best; the trials of the modern day rancher, horse trainer and cow hand.

Nyle describes his poetry as a rhyming diary of his life. "Its about some horses I've rode, some cowboys I've known, some places I've been or something I've done."  Nyle's performance of his cowboy poetry is an art and he has been described as one of the best practitioners of this traditional art form, with his highly-skilled delivery and gripping performance style.

Nyle has performed on the "Tonight Show" and "Portrait of America" and was featured in "Newsweek," "People" and "Western Horseman."

Nyle and his wife Susan own and operate Peaceful Valley Ranch north of Dodge City, Kansas where you'll find him tending cattle, riding colts and shoeing horses when not performing.
